First, in this business you can make extra
money or develop a full-time career. One of the things that is most important is
that you love what you do. If you want a career where you can control how far
you would like to go, this is the business for you. As rewarding as the
entertainment industry is, it requires some talent and lots of practice and hard
work.

Many schools, websites, and convention companies will help models and
actors get trained, supply photographs, and get seen by the right
people. typically models and actors will pay several hundred to over
$10,000 for these services. for some it is worth it, for others it is a
hardship, but is it necessary?
The truth is no, not really. maybe 20, 15, even 5 years ago it
may have cost money to get the exposure to see if you had what it
takes. With the technology we now have, it should not cost you much money if
not any
money to get that exposure.

Things
To Know For Actors
There are a couple of important
things that you need to know so that you can avoid embarrassment and a bad
reputation with the people who may hire you for work.
- Get an answering machine and a cell
phone and include
both numbers in your cover letter.
- Get a book of monologues (a script to memorize and
perform) and have one prepared for an audition if it is
required. [This pretty much applies
to actors/actresses only]
- Get a monthly planner if you dont have one. You
need to know what days you are doing what.
- Get to know people at auditions. You can learn a
lot from each other.
- Put some of the money you make back into pictures
and other things you use to get work.
- Never take anyone with you on an audition, unless
the audition is somewhere or under conditions that you question. Even then do
they NOT go into the audition with you!
- Never drop in on an agency unless you have already
developed a relationship where you know it is OK.
- Never go on an audition without copies of your
headshot and resume.
- Never show up late, but if you are be sure to call
and let them know that you were coming from another audition that ran over and
they will understand.
- If you know that you are not good on camera or
taking pictures, practice with a camcorder or digital camera with all different
kinds of poses and acting situations depending on
what you want to audition for.
